Torre Alfina between tradition and innovation

A charming medieval village, full of fascination with natural beauty and for plurisecolari historical, Torre Alfina, a hamlet of Acquapendente, stands on top of a hill of volcanic origin dominating from the borders of three regions, Lazio Umbria and Tuscany .

Art and history

The name derives directly by the presence already in Roman times, a tower built as a fortress on the highest point dell’altipiano dell’Alfina, around which, in the Middle Ages, a castle was built to guard the vast surrounding area. From the towers of the castle, through the battlements Guelfi, you can admire, as well as the magnificent landscape, the extraordinary harmony of the urban fabric of the village, dispiegatosi along the course of centuries on the slopes of the hill. From the park of the castle you log on to the Sasseto Bosco, “a temple always green and fantastic, whose columns are the trunks of trees, where the Marquis Edward Cahen, owner of the castle as from 1880, wanted it erigesse its Tomb. Walking in this strip of forest ultracentenaria, admiring the picturesque rock formations of volcanic origin, you can breathe the air of myth and a unique charm archaic.

In addition to the beauty offered by the medieval village and the forest of Sasseto are available to tourists numerous hiking trails, percorribili also mountain biking, through which they can go inland Umbrian (Allerona - Park Selva di Meana) or Tuscan ( San Casciano dei Bagni - Val d’Orcia).

Of particular interest is the Museo del Fiore, made in one of the most striking Regional Natural Reserve Monte Rufeno, about 2 km from the country.

Events

Despite the presence of natural landscapes of pristine beauty and important cultural attrattori within its territory, Torre Alfina is not yet known and coveted goal of tourist routes, particularly international ones. To enhance the territory are thus born, games in 2005, as innovative initiatives concerned. Two events propulsion of this promotion activities of territory: the Torre Alfina Blues Festival and exhibitions Chambre d’Amis Torre Alfina.

The Torre Alfina Blues Festival, which annually hosts artists excellent combination of art with food and tasting of typical local products, all consumed in the striking frame from the medieval village, immediately revealed a vehicle of privileged access to knowledge of attractiveness and potential present in the resort hosting the event, namely: art, traditions and good food.

Torre del Moro

At the end of the thirteenth century, the medieval commune of orvieto was at the height of its economic power and political stability. The most representative public buildings in the city became symbols of the authority: the original town hall was restored and the palazzo del popolo and the cathedral were built. Extant buildings were restructured, forming a new urban layout with at its fulcrum the palazzo dei sette and the towerknow of asdel Papa. From the topof the tower, 47 meters hight and almost perfectly oriented to the four cardinal points, the eye could sweep over the “ contado “ with its rural parishes, its hamlets, and its many castles ( from Sugano and Viceno, which were the closed, to those furthest off, beyond the horizon such as Monteleone and Camposervoli ) and over the vast territory subjet to the city of Orvieto. On The west it stretched all the way to the sea, with geographical boundaries east of the pre-Appennines and the mountain peaks of Cetona and Amiata on the north. In The 16th century, the name of the tower appears as “del Moro”, probably after Raffaele di Sante Known as il Moro ( after whom the Palazzo Gualtiero below as well as the whole district was named ). In 1865 the reservoir for distribuiting water from the new acqeduct was installed in the Tower at a height of 18 meters. After restoration in 1866 the mechanical clock was set up and two municipal bells were hoisted to the top. The smaller bell comes from the tower of S. Andrea and larger one from Palazzo del Popolo , where it had been since 1313, the year Poncello Orsini, The Capitano del Popolo, had it cas. Hit coat of arms and device, the symbols of the twenty-five guilds and the sial of the people of the city of Orvieto were set all around.
