Torre Alfina between tradition and innovation

A charming medieval village, full of fascination with natural beauty and for plurisecolari historical, Torre Alfina, a hamlet of Acquapendente, stands on top of a hill of volcanic origin dominating from the borders of three regions, Lazio Umbria and Tuscany .

Art and history

The name derives directly by the presence already in Roman times, a tower built as a fortress on the highest point dell’altipiano dell’Alfina, around which, in the Middle Ages, a castle was built to guard the vast surrounding area. From the towers of the castle, through the battlements Guelfi, you can admire, as well as the magnificent landscape, the extraordinary harmony of the urban fabric of the village, dispiegatosi along the course of centuries on the slopes of the hill. From the park of the castle you log on to the Sasseto Bosco, “a temple always green and fantastic, whose columns are the trunks of trees, where the Marquis Edward Cahen, owner of the castle as from 1880, wanted it erigesse its Tomb. Walking in this strip of forest ultracentenaria, admiring the picturesque rock formations of volcanic origin, you can breathe the air of myth and a unique charm archaic.

In addition to the beauty offered by the medieval village and the forest of Sasseto are available to tourists numerous hiking trails, percorribili also mountain biking, through which they can go inland Umbrian (Allerona – Park Selva di Meana) or Tuscan ( San Casciano dei Bagni – Val d’Orcia).

Of particular interest is the Museo del Fiore, made in one of the most striking Regional Natural Reserve Monte Rufeno, about 2 km from the country.

 

Events

 

Despite the presence of natural landscapes of pristine beauty and important cultural attrattori within its territory, Torre Alfina is not yet known and coveted goal of tourist routes, particularly international ones. To enhance the territory are thus born, games in 2005, as innovative initiatives concerned. Two events propulsion of this promotion activities of territory: the Torre Alfina Blues Festival and exhibitions Chambre d’Amis Torre Alfina.

The Torre Alfina Blues Festival, which annually hosts artists excellent combination of art with food and tasting of typical local products, all consumed in the striking frame from the medieval village, immediately revealed a vehicle of privileged access to knowledge of attractiveness and potential present in the resort hosting the event, namely: art, traditions and good food.

Chambre d’Amis, an exhibition of contemporary art, conceived and implemented by the Berlin painter Thomas Lange and by the sculptor Japanese Mutso Hirano, annually hosts more or less known contemporary landscape with the aim of “upsetting” to exploit the small village medieval.
